Ka-Ro TX37: One of the world's smallest Freescale i.MX37 based System on modules

Aachen, 22nd June 2009 – Ka-Ro electronics has announced the availability of the new TX37 System on Module featuring the powerful Freescale i.MX37 multimedia application processor based on an ARM1176JZF-S™ multimedia core. Ka-Ro has integrated the advanced Freescale processor onto a board with the tiny dimensions of 26mm x 67.6mm. That makes it one of the smallest i.MX System on Modules in the world, and – in addition to that – alongside Freescale's own development system which includes the i.MX37, today Ka-Ro's is the only module worldwide including this processor. The net price for a single TX37 module is 130 euros, prices for larger volumes are available on request.

"The earliest availability of Ka-Ro’s TX37 System on Module is a breakthrough to support our joint customers in leading edge multimedia applications” said Jean-Louis Dolmeta, Freescale EMEA Product Manager, Networking & Multimedia Group, “Through our partnership with Ka-Ro we are able to provide a full system solution to a wide customer base at the earliest possible time."

Ekkehard Meurers, Ka-Ro’s CFO, added: “Due to this alliance with Freescale our customers benefit from a complete system integration which puts them in a strong position to attack embedded multimedia markets.”

In the new Ka-Ro TX37 module, the Freescale i.MX37 processor with a clock rate of 532 MHz further boasts 128 MB SDRAM and 128 MB Flash Memory.  Thanks to Freescale's IPU v3D technology, the processor supports 24-bit true colour with XGA resolution, which comes into its own in applications with very large displays, e.g. portable media players or mobile internet devices. Standard video formats like MPEG4, H.264, WMV/VC-1, MPEG2 and H.263 with a resolution of up to 576x720 (D1) are also supported. The TX37 System on Module is equipped with a hardware decoder that ensures all multimedia applications run smoothly without taking any noticeable toll on the processor's performance. The TX37 is ideally suited for embedded applications with very high demands on graphic and multimedia performance. Additionally, the TX37 offers best performance for low power applications.

An integrated LCD controller enables the direct connection to an LCD Screen while the standard TRITON TX interface allows for the connection of 4-wire UART (x2) up to 24 bit LCD interface, I2C, SSI/AC97/12S, 4-wire SDIO (x2) and keypad 3 x 4 along with High Speed USB 2.0 and Ethernet.

Ka-Ro's optional Starter-Kit V is the perfect assistant for developers designing embedded applications. Amongst the most important features of the board, there are two SD card slots, a USB 2.0 OTG, the D-SUB 15 VGA and an Ethernet connection along with a 40 Pin LCD flat cable for the direct connection of a TFT display.
